この1週間で少し睡眠不足だったので、昨日は家に帰ったら夕食もとらずに眠った。
だるくなるくらいに眠って、今朝目を覚ましてラジオをつけたら、忌野清志郎の訃報が伝えられていた。
うそだろ、忌野清志郎が死ぬなんて。
きっと、寝すぎたから、頭がどうかしたんだ、そう思ってインターネットのニュースを見ても、やっぱり大きく扱われている。今まで、有名人の訃報が伝えられて、それを聞いて「ご冥福を」と言う人の気持ちが良くわからなかった。おそらく、自分が影響を受けたけれど、面識のない人の訃報というのが、今までなかったから、想像できなかったのだろうと思う。
私は後述するように、忌野清志郎にはとても大きな影響を受けている。そして、今回同思ったかというと、整理しては言えない。それでも、やっぱり衝撃は大きい。それは、きっと、忌野清志郎が、自分の一部になっていたからだと思う。
私が忌野清志郎を初めて知ったのは、中学生の頃だった。TVで流れていた"スローバラード"を聴いて衝撃を受けた。あの声、あの歌詞、あのメロディ。そしてその曲は、随分と昔のヒット曲だということ、今は解散したRCサクセションというバンドの曲だということ、忌野清志郎という人は今も音楽を続けているということを知った。
私はそれから、tsutayaに通って、RCサクセションと忌野清志郎のCDを片っ端から借りた。当時の小遣いでは、すべてのCDを買うことはできなかったし、私はとにかくすぐにでも少しでも多く彼の曲を聴きたかったからだ。
そして、daydream believerだった中学生の私は、周りがラルクとかを聴いている間、ずっと忌野清志郎とRCサクセションの曲を聴き続けた。今思えば、他人と違うものを聴いてみたいという、思春期独特の自意識の発露とも思えるけれど、発売禁止となった過去の曲のエピソードなんかはとてもかっこよかったし、かっこいい大人というのは、こういうものだと思っていた。
そして、高校生になっても、聴き続けていると、君が代のパンクバージョンが発売禁止になって、インディーズから発売されるというニュースを聞いた。私はやっぱり、とても嬉しくて、このCDは買った。今思えば、初めて買った忌野清志郎のCDがこれで、これ以降私は、同時代の忌野清志郎を追い続けた。
今回の訃報で、違和感を感じたのは、やっぱり多数のニュースは、RCサクセションの忌野清志郎としての扱いで、1990年代以降の曲については触れられていなかったように思うからだ。私にとっての忌野清志郎は、同時代の音楽であって、だからこそとてもかっこよかった。
その思いは、大学生になっても変わらず、東京に出てきて一番初めに入ったライブも、忌野清志郎だった。当時ラフィータフィーというバンドを結成していて、その2度目の全国ツアーの東京公演だ。ライブハウスでの全国ツアーというコンセプトだったこのライブも、渋谷のライブハウスで行われていて、とても近くに、中学生から聴き続けた忌野清志郎がいるということが、何か信じられないことのように思えた。
ライブの最後には、出口でメンバーが挨拶をして送り出すというのも、夢の世界のようだった。
そして、Tシャツがビショビショになるほど激しく動いた私は、帰り着いた家の玄関で、両足が攣った。
そのライブで、とても印象的だった場面がある。
それは、"夢"という曲の前のMCだ。
俺には夢がある！俺には夢があるんだ！I have a dream！
と叫んだあとで、
世界中から、戦争がなくなることだ！と忌野清志郎は叫んだ。
そして、その後に始まったのは、その激しさと対照的なくらいに、穏やかで、美しい曲だった。

このMCと曲に、今思えばとても忌野清志郎らしさが表れていたのだと思う。つまり、原発反対の歌や、FM東京批判の歌や、北朝鮮批判の歌や、君が代など、様々の話題になった「怒りの歌」の側面と、スローバラードなどのセンチメンタルな側面と。
その両面が、矛盾せずに同時に存在しているからこそ、とても魅力があったし、私もああいう大人になりたいと思ったのだろう。
その後も、新しいアルバムが出たら買い、絵本のサイン会にも行って直筆サインを貰ったりした。
私が行ったツアーの前年のツアーのドキュメンタリー映画『不確かなメロディー』は劇場で観たし、DVDだって買った。

つまり、私は、21世紀の忌野清志郎のファンだったわけだ。
一番いいアルバムは"Ruffy Tuffy"だと信じているし、"トランジスタラジオ"や"雨上がりの夜空に"よりも、このアルバムに収録されている曲の方が好きだ。
先ほど引用した"夢"は素晴らしすぎるし、"Sweet Lovin'"もとても良い。
また、このアルバムではないけれど、"水の泡"を失恋したときに聴いたりしたっけか。
斑尾高原まで自転車で行ったときも、Ruffy Tuffyのステッカーを自転車に貼っていった。
ああ、何だかいかに自分がファンか、を書いているだけのように思う。つまらないな。
そういえば、最近、忌野清志郎に関する不思議なエピソードがあった。
先日池袋のお好み焼屋でお好み焼を食べながら飲んでいたら、BGMに流れていた曲が、忌野清志郎がタイマーズ名義でカバーした"デイ・ドリーム・ビリーバー"だった。
この曲も私は最も好きな曲の一つなので、一緒に飲んでいた人相手に、ご機嫌に話したりしてしまった。
少し暑苦しかったかと反省していたら、翌日、全く別の、私が忌野清志郎のファンだと知っている友人から、忌野清志郎が歌っている"デイ・ドリーム・ビリーバー"ってどのアルバムに入っている？というメールが届いた。
2日連続で、忌野清志郎、しかも"デイ・ドリーム・ビリーバー"の話というのが、なんだかとても不思議だった。
さて、今、私は紆余曲折ありながらも、夢をもって生きていて、その夢を話した人には、全くdaydream believerかのように見れるけれど、なんだかんだいって、此処にいるのは、東京に来て間もない頃にきいた、忌野清志郎の俺には夢がある。夢もっているか！という問いかけの影響はとても大きいのかもしれない、と思っている。
これだけ大きな影響を受けた忌野清志郎の死を聞いて、結局私はどう思ったか。身近な人の死というのとは、少し違う。なんとも不思議な衝撃だ。
もう忌野清志郎の新譜が聞けないし、ライブにもいけないのは残念でならない。何より、忌野清志郎という表現者がいなくなってしまったのはとても残念だ。
けれど、今は、忌野清志郎から影響を受けた、夢を、夢のそばにいようと思う。
そういえば、"デイ・ドリーム・ビリーバー"は、以下の歌詞で締めくくられる。
